Domain Throttle Help

Postby Guest » 1:25pm, Sat 20 Sep, 2008

Hi,
I am having a lot of my yahoo, hotmail emails being bounced back saying i have exceeded the 100 emails per hour to them. The thing is that I am sending only 45 emails per hour so it doesnt make sense.

I surmise they are calculating this possibly by the gap in 2 consecutive emails. So if i email them in less than 3600/100 = 36 sec they bounce my emails off. Is that correct logic ?

Now I am also exploring the domain throttle in phplist.
with these settings. Do these settings mean as i think ?

define('USE_DOMAIN_THROTTLE',1); >>ON
define('DOMAIN_BATCH_SIZE',1); > 1 Email
define('DOMAIN_BATCH_PERIOD',60); > every 60sec ?
define('DOMAIN_AUTO_THROTTLE',0); off

Thanks a lot for helping.

I don't think that you need to use domain throttling if you are only sending 45 msgs/hr. Just set the mailqueue throttle to a higher value, e.g. 30 or 40 seconds and see how it goes. See also: http://docs.phplist.com/PhpListConfigSendRate

With regard to domain throttling, perhaps these posts might help give an idea how it works:

The issue seems to be at my ISP end.
Maybe i will have to send these in the night time.
Thanks

define('USE_DOMAIN_THROTTLE',1);
define('DOMAIN_BATCH_SIZE',6);
define('DOMAIN_BATCH_PERIOD',60);
would imply that you can send no more that 6 message to the same domain in a period of 60 seconds.
I suppose -but this really nothing more than a supposition- that if phplist detects there are more messages to be sent to the same domain, it will keep skipping messages until it finds one that goes to a different domain.

And how is this changed with
Code: Select all
define('DOMAIN_AUTO_THROTTLE',1);

?!

Please, is there no one on God's green Earth that knows the answer?

Also, what do you think should the minimal MAILQUEUE_BATCH_PERIOD be with USE_DOMAIN_THROTTLE, both with and without DOMAIN_AUTO_THROTTLE? Surely the default 3600 seconds (1 hour) is way too much.
