Cannot See FCKeditor

Attached is an image of what I see - The 'Content', 'Format'. Attache' etc buttons are there - however when I click on any of them the FCKeditor does not appear. I have been playing for a week now and cannot get past this stage (ready to throw in the towel). I have createwd a list, sent a test message (empty message) etc ...I have check marks for all of these:
Initialise Database go there Yes
Change Admin Password go there Yes
Configure General Values go there Yes
Configure Attributes go there Yes
Create Lists go there Yes
Create Subscribe Pages go there Yes

Please help me create just one test message.
