Blacklisted users

Postby glenpike » 12:16pm, Mon 19 Feb, 2007

We have setup an installation with a super admin and a normal admin, with default priveleges.

The problem we have is that when admin(s) "view members" of a list, it does not filter out blacklisted users or flag the users as blacklisted. It will only do this in the "manage users" section.

As we have disabled the manage users functionality for the normal admin, this presents a bit of a problem as there is no way for the admin to see who is blacklisted or not.

This also presents another problem in that we want to allow the normal admin to export a list of subscribers in CSV format. The problem here is that the system does not filter out people that are blacklisted, so currently we have disabled this functionality.

We feel that this allowing blacklisted users to be exported is bad practice in terms of spam / email privacy regulations and that the normal admin(s), i.e. non-techies would not understand that they should not use the list they downloaded / exported as a definitive list of subscribers.

We also feel that the "view members" output is misleading to the non-techies as it gives the impression that there are actually more subscribers on the list because it does not filter or indicate blacklisted people.

This is just a viewpoint, but I would welcome some opinions from other users.

Please do not export black listed

Postby Heritage » 7:03pm, Wed 16 May, 2007

The solution would be to have under the "phplist - export users" and "Select the columns to include in the export" there should be the following:

[check box] Is this user blacklisted

This would allow an Admin to sort out the black listed manually. Another proposal for the next program update would be choose which "list" to download and the ability to exclude blacklisted individuals.

Also the ability to download just the black listed people would be great so that this information can be reported back to campaigns for which to have others avoid emailing people for particular offers/campaigns/subscriptions.

The better we can handle data, the better service we can provide to the consumer.

On a side note: Does anyone notice how when you are emailing the site works fine but people are not able to go and login to be removed/blacklisted? I have run this on dedicated Xeon class servers and still the script is not able to multitask.

This is an excellent post and deserves a response. Has anyone successfully added integrated "confirmed?" and "blacklisted" column into the database import/exprt feature of phpLIST?

Absolutely. This is a very important topic and I am surprised no one has replied since May. I wonder if it has already been fixed.

This is one issue I consider very important. No one seems to care but I reaaly think if this doesn't get solved I might have to look for something else.

I have 8000 on one list 7500 on another, moreless 4500 blacklisted users.

I t is just very difficult to manage all of that.

When I need to export users for example, PHPList exports EVERYTHING!!! It doesn't sort or give me an option to export nonblackilist users.

That's why I have almost 5000 blacklisted users. Due to mistakes on who we send mail to, we have been assimilated with spammers when we are just a magazine sending out news to people who actually subscribed for it.

I can only hope more people will talk here about the "blacklist" issue as far as sorting by more methods.

The logic is there under other conditions. PHPlist is just not universal enough in the layout of the functionality.

I would modify the code, but there are so many updates lately it gets hard to go back through and remodify the code again and again for our personal code modifications to make things work better.

Not to get off topic but a better/advance config section in the admin would be great.

First the getting to the black listing data would help the greatest. I have posted in a few other threads on details of this issue where it applies. IE: export users section. or the sort by users to report the number of black listed users when checked. It actually reports all users and unconfirmed, but not black listed totals.

Right. Its is funy that if you click on a list under "lists", it shows you so many users are registered to this list. But we have no way to know how many actually get the mail.

So you can't export a list of users w/o blacklistd included?

Postby Everrett » 9:54pm, Thu 18 Oct, 2007

I would like to export users
- all users
- or just users from a single list

And not have blacklisted users and unconfirmed users included.

Unless I'm missing something, this isn't possible.

Furthermore, even in the resulting exported data there isn't an indication to which users are blacklisted or unconfirmed -- so that I could filter them out manually.

Do I have this right? I'd like someone to confirm so that I could stop searching for the answer. Thanks. :D

I'm at my wit's end with this program. It is too difficult and too unreliable. I guess you really do get what you pay for.

I want to delete all my blacklisted users so they don't d/l during an export.

Can't do it.

I want to export users and omit blacklisted.

Can't do it.

I want to have a reliable newsletter delivery system -- and this certainly isn't it. I was going to try to do something else today (desperately try mail merge with Outlook ... it can't be worse than this) -- but I can't even get a decent list.

I guess I'll have to spend all day filtering out the blacklisted items and then DELETE THIS LIST FROM MY SERVER!!!!

I'm done.
