Mambo support in phpList

Postby Yalla-One » 8:38pm, Sun 17 Oct, 2004

I would very much like to see an integration method for phpList and Mambo, preferably more than a wrapper, so that the people who subscribe to a newsletter are automagically registered as Mambo members, and the Mambo members are automagically signed up for a pre-configured newsletter.

I am a Mambo Fan too. I would highly appreciate this. Phplist is the best Newsletter software I have seen so far.

Since I am using phplist with many different newsletters and subscriber databases, I do not need to have the combined registration immediately, although this is a great idea.

To get this as fast as possible done, maybe it is a good idea to offer first a module like this without combined registration and in a later version with this combined registration.

My strongest concern is the ability to upgrade this "phplist-module/component" later as soon as a new version of phplist and/or mambo is out.

It should be made available currently for both, mambo version 4.5 (1.09) and 4.51.

I am using phplist 2.8.12 currently. I can not judge how fast the new version will be stable and how often a new stable version of PhPlist comes out.

I think making it available for 4.5.1 is good enough. This would be a big step for PHPlist and big leap for the Mambo community. There is a definite need for an excellent app like PHPlist.

The type of integration you describe is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. None of the (free) mailing list modules in Mambo, Xoops, Post-Nuke, etc even come close to the great features in phpList. I've downloaded and tried out each of them on my test site, but have been disappointed every time. I'm very interested in converting several of my live sites to using a CMS (preferably Mambo), but I'm not going to do it until I can find a way to integrate phpList. If only I had the knowledge and time to figure it out myself...but that's just not an option right now.

I agree with snoopy that the combined registration is a 'nice-to-have' but not necessary for a first release. And I also agree with gsbe that integration with only Mambo 4.5.1 would be adequate.

I would immensely appreciate this type of integration!

Badly in need of such a solution

Postby ganar » 7:43pm, Fri 08 Apr, 2005

There is a great need for this integration, none of the current Mailing list APP can do the job as thoroughly as phplist. The wrapper works very well but there are things that go above and beyond of what it can do.

I would love to have a way to set a module with a small form in any given page to subscribe to a list in PHPlist... The automatic user syncronization is also very important.

Another nice feature would be to be able to notify the users when a new article is published...There are so many good things that can be done with this integration...

Any news YET????

Postby BrotherPhil » 6:37pm, Sun 10 Jul, 2005

I too use Mambo, I even design mambo-based sites for other groups, and have recently had client(s) ask about list management (having tried mambo's built in solution, I have recently opted for phpList), and I am suggesting phpList strongly to them.... HOWEVER... the dual registration is a problem for one of my clients... and deep down, is a problem for me, too! So, PLEASE, someone tell me that a component of SOME sort has been developed to solve these issues! (mine and the ones listed above)

I also would love it if phpList could be installed as a Mambo Components and Module! I'm already integrating phpList with Mambo, but it's cumbersome. I don't integrate the user registration with phpList, just because I haven't had a need to yet. All of my clients have just wanted the newsletter, not the user registration.

Sure hope this happens! This would definitely be my #1 feature request for phpList.

Cheers,

any news on this?

the core developper team of Mambo just make their own stuff now under the name Joomla (www.joomla.org). Joomla 1.0 is nothing else than Mambo 4.5.2.3

Has anybody developed ANY KIND OF SOLUTION for a combination of Mambo or Joomla with PHPlist?

Joomla-phpList - some thoughts

Postby brendonhatcher » 8:33am, Tue 29 Nov, 2005

I use Mambo/Joomla extensively for my clients. My comments are:

1. Yes, phpList is FAR more advanced than anything currently available for Joomla

2. The phpList subscriber - Joomla member registration is not that important for sites that don't have member-only content, as there are very few times that a phpList subscriber would need to login to their profile without just clicking on the footer of an email they receive.

3. IMHO, the most important integration would be shared content. Joomla allows an intro text and further text for each article.

There are several permutations:

- an archive of newsletters in the Joomla site
- insert the intro text of one or more articles with links to the site for the full article
- insert the full text

Although I don't have the foggiest idea how to actually do this, I know that Joomla can produce and accept RSS feeds, and phplist can (I think) accept RSS feeds into the content to be sent.

Looking forward to helping this all happen.

Regards
Brendon

Well, I'm not a "super" developer, however, I'm willing to collaborate with a few on the list to hack it out, any takers?

Keen but don't have enough time to do too much

- I have Mambo / phpshop and mambo which needs integration with phplist, then again I also need integration with Hylafax as all the phplist features would make hylafax work really well. I know phplist pretty well but haven't had to dig through mambo too much yet.

Key features - signup, past emails, I don't like combined registration unless it is clear you can choose the email list, I don't want to send it by default unless its actively chosen.
Also look and feel to be same.

The issues are support during upgrades and the automated add / remove module processes but that can't be too hard

Php already has an option to use an external database for its users so thats a start
