How can you add multiple emails to your list?

I have a question. I tried the demo oh phplist but I couldn't find a way to add multiple email addresses to the list. If I have hundreds, how can I add them all at once? Would I have to add them one at a time? If so that would be too tedious and inefficient. Is there a simpler way?

Thanks,
Winston

There is an import function, within the manage users menu item.

How do you do that? Can you describe the steps? I tried it in the demo but didn't see it. Can you just copy and paste the emails? What type of file do you need to import the emails in?

Thanks.

Click manage users, then click import users.

Also see the documentation, there is a link in header of the forum page.

Are you referring to this page of the documentation?

http://docs.phplist.com/ImportUsersInfo.html

Well look, I just want to import many emails from a text file that are separated by commas. What's the easiest and quickest way to do that?

Have you tried importing the email addresses following those guidelines?
If so, what are you having difficulty with?

If you want to import only email addresses and not user attributes as well, then it doesn't matter whether you choose 'import emails with different values for attributes' or 'import emails with the same values for attributes'. Create your text file with one email address on each line, with the first line having the header 'email'.

Because the documentation contains too much jargon and looks like it was written by computer, not an articulate person. I can't find what I need in it. I just need a quick simple way to do it.

However, after uploading the "lists" directory per the instructions, I can't even get it to work. I can't access the admin panel. I went to my forum URL here: http://www.happierabroad.com/forum/list ... /index.php

But it doesn't work. Can you find out why?

Also, I don't understand this part of the installation instructions:

"Create a database for phpList to use. phpList needs the name of that database during the installation process."

How do I do that exactly? I know how to get into my database in my Host Admin Panel. However, what commands and code do I enter into it? It doesn't explain that. It looks like this documentation was written for programmers, not laypeople.

If you use something like Fantastico or Superlicious to install phpList these will set up your database for you.

If you install manually, you need to set up a DB yourself. Have you permission on your server for one or several databases?

If one, then you need the name of the existing database, a database user and password for that user to access your single database. Then simply use that info to set the database settings in the config.php file. (Use phplist as the prefix).

If you have access to more than one database, you can create one just for the phpList use.
Use your website cPanel to create a MySQL db, add a user and remember the password you use. Again, add this info to the config.php file.

As for your problem accessing your site, I've just tried the link you gave and got a 403 (Forbidden) error. Is the link provided accurate?

Do you mean I can just create a blank database? What's the command to create a database exactly? What should I name it? Can you give an example of how to create one and what to type exactly into the SQL database?

I would prefer to create a second database since I'm not sure if using a pre-existing database would create a conflict or not.

Yes the link is correct. I reuploaded the index.php file under admin and the page is still not showing up and returning a 404 error. Weird.

Yes, phpList does assume you have the knowledge to know how to create a database, though there are plenty of how-to's on the net, just check Google.

Here's one that may help, http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/php ... tabase.htm

DO NOT attempt to go past creating the database and database user and applying that user to your database. phpList will add the required tables and initial data.

Create your database, then the db user and password. Take note of this information, you can't recover it! Allocate said user to your database, then substitute the info for the database settings in the phplist/config/config.php file using a text editor
