Moving attachment links up from footer

Postby ovisopa » 6:18pm, Wed 18 Jul, 2007

Hello,

today I installed the phplist first time I was able to set it up to not load my server and to avoid huge amount of spam (100 messages / hour)

The problem is that the link to the attachments is way to much at the bottom, that is the last part of the email and it is not normal because many users will not see that :(

This is a test message :

Can anyone tell me what file to edit, to but this line with the attachment under the email text and not here at the bottom.

I searched for this $strAttachmentIntro but it's very weird I cant find this variable in any other files than the language files.

Anyone has an ideea ?

10x in advance.

Nobody around to help me with this thing ?

I found it realy wrong positioned, because the person who's receiving the newslleter is not looking after the unsubscripe links .. Do you all read all the footer text of newsletters ? NO. This is my answer and I bet that more than 80% will not see the attachment after reading a newsletter.

Okay, well the file you need to look at is sendemaillib.php in \lists\admin\, and the bit that adds the footer info (to the text format, rather than HTML format message) looks like this;

Code: Select all
  if (eregi("\[FOOTER\]",$textmessage))
    $textmessage = eregi_replace("\[FOOTER\]",$text["footer"],$textmessage);
  else
    $textmessage .= "\n\n".$text["footer"];
  if (eregi("\[SIGNATURE\]",$textmessage))
    $textmessage = eregi_replace("\[SIGNATURE\]",$text["signature"],$textmessage);
  else
    $textmessage .= "\n".$text["signature"];

I would 'suggest' (i.e. having not tested it) that you can comment this bit out. Then, in the same file, search for the line containing

Code: Select all
      addAttachments($messageid,$mail,"text");

and place in something like this below it and before the "break;"

Code: Select all
if (eregi("\[FOOTER\]",$textmessage))
    $new_footer = eregi_replace("\[FOOTER\]",$text["footer"],$textmessage);
  else
    $new_footer = "\n\n".$text["footer"];
  if (eregi("\[SIGNATURE\]",$textmessage))
    $new_footer = eregi_replace("\[SIGNATURE\]",$text["signature"],$textmessage);
  else
  $new_footer .= "\n".$text["signature"];

$mail->append_text($new_footer);

At least that's how it looks like it works. If it's rainy like this tomorrow afternoon I may try and get a working example of this done.

Salu together,

i am looking at the same problem. How was the weather in July? Did it rain enough to test the code? :-) Is it working?

Thanks a lot anyway for pointing in the right direction.

Has anyone been able to achieve this yet?

I tried the method suggested above but it didn't work.

Does anyone else know how to move the attachment link above the footer on text emails?

As a workaround, add a message in the DEFAULT FOOTER, at the top of the default footer.

eg.
"
===> Attachments : If you have received a text-only message, retrieve from the Download Link URL at the very bottom of this message. <====

"

I also modified the bottom of the page text by changing 1) $strAttachmentIntro and 2) $strLocation.

These strings of text can be modified in the "text" folder of the relevant language strings file (eg english.inc).

New "bottom" of message:-

<<<===== Attachments =====>>>
This message contains attachments that can be viewed with a webbrowser:

Attachment Download Link: : http://somedomainlink....

Because it gets lost below the Footer and Unsubscribe, Modify, Forward links. That's why.
