character encoding [solved]

Postby webrp » 1:32pm, Sun 17 Oct, 2010

Hi guys,

I use phplist in portuguese language, and I am facing several probles with special characters like á or õ.
I have already searched a lot in this forum and documentation, but cant find a straight answer.

my problems:
-when I am building a message to send, and while I am editing this message, everytime this one is saved I loose the SUBJECT.
-special character like á or õ are replaced by "?" or other strange characters

tips?

ok, I have find a way to solve this problem:

-On phplist admin page, menu "configure", the both "charset" variables should be "utf-8"
On phplist files:
-in config/config.php file the language module is "portuguese_pt.inc"
-in texts/portuguese_pt.inc set this "$strCharSet= 'utf-8';"
-in /admin/lan/pt-br /language_info make "charset=utf-8"

While I am on admin page and editing message I must set the clanguage combo-box to portuguese

I think this is solved now

Looks like the encoding should be 8bit right? I read 7bit does not function with utf-8
This can be set in class.phpmailer.php

Also I use portuguese.inc not portuguese_pt.inc

Subject in admin emails working without need to type the html entities.

If you are running phpList v2.10.12, please see this short tutorial: How to configure UTF-8 in phpList

If you have translated backend and you have problems with special characters ...
The cause for character encoding mess is usually that you didn't set the UTF-8 encoding in your editor. Default is usualy on ANSI ... Check this 1st before. Open the file and convert encoding to UTF-8. I'm using Notepad++ and was quite obvious thing to check 1st ..

Exactly where can i put this information?

-On phplist admin page, menu "configure", the both "charset" variables should be "utf-8"
On phplist files:
-in config/config.php file the language module is "portuguese_pt.inc"
-in texts/portuguese_pt.inc set this "$strCharSet= 'utf-8';"
-in /admin/lan/pt-br /language_info make "charset=utf-8"

Resolvi o problema ajustando o seguinte bloco de código no arquivo send_core.php, próximo à linha 1043:

// $utf8_subject = iconv($GLOBALS['strCharSet'],'UTF-8',$utf8_subject);
// if (strcasecmp($GLOBALS['strCharSet'], 'utf-8') <> 0 && function_exists('iconv')) {
// $utf8_subject = iconv($GLOBALS['strCharSet'],'UTF-8',$utf8_subject);
// $utf8_from = iconv($GLOBALS['strCharSet'],'UTF-8',$utf8_from);
// }

No meu caso comentei todo o bloco de código, meu banco está em formato UTF-8 bem como o Apache. Também funciona se trocar o UTF-8 por ISO-8859-1. No meu caso resolveu. Abraço!
