Swedish letters

Postby Blinkiz » 9:40am, Wed 16 Mar, 2011

Hi
The Swedish language has a three more letters than the English one.
å, ä, ö, Å, Ä, Ö.

Subject line in each mail can not display these special letters.
Custom variables in body can not display these special letters.
Body text can display these letters.

What can I do to make these letters work in subject and variables?

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Server
Char: "en_US.UTF-8" everywhere. Database mysql "utf8_general_ci". "UTF-8" in phplist.

Found a solution for custom variables
Notice that /lists/texts/swedish.inc was encoded in ISO-8859-1 (why?!).

  1. Code: Select all
    mv swedish.inc swedish.inc.wrong
    iconv -f iso-8859-1 -t utf-8 swedish.inc.wrong > swedish.inc
  2. Then I edited swedish.inc and changed $strCharSet from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8.
  3. Next I edited /lists/config/config.php and added "swedish.inc" as the choosen language.

No solution for subject line yet.

Aha, did not understand what you meant, but I figured it out.
The code is not really code. It's two commands that you should run in /lists/texts/ directory.

Anyone have a foolproof solution for how to be able to use Swedish language (å, ä, ö) in the subject line?

After configuring phpList as described in How to configure UTF-8 in phpList, you might also check the encoding of a number of table fields, as suggested by TomasM in this post: viewtopic.php?p=85587#p85587
