Issues after fresh install on version 2.10.10 [solved]

Postby Heritage » 5:22pm, Wed 06 May, 2009

In version 2.10.10 on some older servers there seems to be an issue with the editor for sending a message.

Apache/1.3.35 (Unix) Sun-ONE-ASP/4.0.0 ApacheJServ/1.1.2 PHP/4.4.4 - mysql 5.0.26

It will not allow the message to be edited and cuts off the page after the content/misc tabs.

(...and it is not a browser issue. Tried on all browsers both Mac and PC.)

Even trying TinyMCE still does not work.

Our server had no issues on the 2.10.9 version.

I assume 2.10.10 may require PHP 5. I will keep testing on other servers.

Is anyone else having issues with new installs on version 2.10.10?

Did you try changing the FCKeditor base configuration file in lists/admin/FCKeditor/editor/fckeditor.html, as suggested by Primebus in this thread: viewtopic.php?p=30998#p30998

Tried all the suggested fixes so far and it still does not work. I installed in on another server and got it to work. Not sure why it does not work, but the server I have it failing on is not going to be around much longer.

So not sure if I am going to spend any more time on the issue. I will install it on some other servers. If I run into the issue on one of my other servers then I will have to dig into it deeper.

So far I have not narrowed it down to what is actually preventing it, but I do see I am not the only one experiencing the issue.

Thanks!

I have tried all of the solutions also, and I still get the same thing. I am very new to this program and not familiar with PHP. Any help available would be most appreciated.

Just to add a little more information, I loaded FCKEditor outside of PHPList and it works fine on the same server and client machines. No problem at all.

I found a solution to the problem I was having. The issue was in the Send_Core.php file. On lines 1023 and 1024 of my version you will find:

// value="'.htmlentities($subject,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr> --> previous code in line 1032
// value="'.htmlentities($from,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr> --> previous code in line 1038

On line 1034 and 1040 are:

//value="'.htmlentities(iconv('ISO-8859-1','UTF-8',$subject),ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr>
value="'.htmlentities(iconv('ISO-8859-1','UTF-8',$from),ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr>

I am not sure why 1034 is commented out, but if you replace 1034 with the contents of 1023 without the comment, and replace 1040 with 1024 without the comment, the program works fine for me. So it looks like something is causing a problem in the "iconv('ISO-8859-1','UTF-8',$from)" bit of code.

So the resulting code starting at line 1030 looks like this:

$maincontent .= '
<tr><td>'.Help("subject").' '.$GLOBALS['I18N']->get("Subject").':</td>
<td><input type=text name="msgsubject"
value="'.htmlentities($subject,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=2>
</td></tr>
<tr><td>'.Help("from").' '.$GLOBALS['I18N']->get("fromline").':</td>
<td><input type=text name=from
value="'.htmlentities($from,ENT_QUOTES,'UTF-8').'" size=40></td></tr>
<tr><td colspan=2>
</td></tr>';

Someone who knows a lot more about the program and php would have to fix the problem with iconv or explain why it is better, but for now this works.

Wow. This really should be fixed in the next release. I had the same experience.

It's not working for me even with the fix.

FWIW, I have the following language/locale environment variables set on Linux:

LANG=en_CA.UTF-8

I have the following version of PHP: PHP 5.2.6-1+lenny3 with Suhosin-Patch 0.9.6.2 (cli) (built: Apr 26 2009 22:16:23)

I'm running Zend Engine 2.2.0

And I'm running the following version of Apache: Server version: Apache/2.2.9 (Debian)

TinyMCE otoh is working. However it's not functional; it creates relational paths for the images, which breaks when it comes up as an IMAP message, because the image paths are relational to the website, not an IMAP message.

Yeah, sure...not a problem.

I will backup the phplist database, and replicate it into a new database so that it doesn't affect our current newsletter. Give me a couple of days, in case I get a bit busy.

Wouldn't you know it?

When I export the database out, drag it over to a different website, throw in all new php files, and modify the new config, everything works just fine.

Hrm...thought it was working, but it was only working under Linux.

On Firefox on Windows, even with the patched PHP code, it still doesn't work on 3.0.11, or 3.5.

P.S. I even reinstalled the list from scratch (backing up and restoring the database first). My phplist module for Wordpress is now semi-working (getting added to the database, but user's not getting an email sent out), but that's another matter.

I will PM you with details.

Just thought I'd post a follow up to this after having gone over everything with one of the moderators (who, incidentally is a really great guy).

The solution for myself was to clear the entire cache and clear all cookies. I'm not sure why that fixed the problem, but it did, and that's what matters.

I hope if someone else runs into a similar problem to mine, that this will help them with their problem also.
