Dummy question about bounces and how to remove users

Dear all,
I know nothing about databases, so please help.
I have nearly 400 bounces on my list out of 4000.

"390 of 396 users processed
Identifying consecutive bounces
396 users processed"

I would like to remove these emails from the list, so I don't email people who don't exist, how do I do this?
Appreciate your help.

Hey AlternativePhoto,

It looks like you've almost got there, it sounds like you've already clicked on process bounces in your phpList admin dashboard, and probably have the bounce configurations setup properly. The next step is clicking on view bounces, and from there you can take a look at why your messages are bouncing back, and then decide to delete that user if you wanted to remove them from your database completely so they didn't just keep on bouncing.

I actually write technical documentation and recently wrapped up my phpList education channel, I think you would probably get a lot of benefit from reading my article on handling bounces with phplist. I directly linked you to the 2nd section talking about processing bounces in phpList, if you're having issues getting them viewed following those steps and screenshots, scroll up to the top of the article and read the section about ensuring that phpList is configured to properly handle bounces.

Let me know if that helps you out or not, and I can try to provide you with some other stuff to try if all of that fails.

Is there a way to mass delete all bounces? I see there way to delete one by one, but there are many, many bounces in the PHPlist I use at work. How can I delete all and be done?

Check from the admin pages, View Bounces, then you are offered the option to delete bounces less than, or more than 2 months old.

Do read the warning abuot deleting bounces on a live site though please.

Thank you, but can you please explain what the different options do?
What do the different options mean?
delete all unidentified
Delete all processed
Delete all
Reset bounces
Which one should I use to clean up my list?

What does deleta all processed less than 2 month old mean, I don't really understand what a processed bounce is...

Presumably you've clicked process bounces in the past? These are processed bounces. If you delete processed bouces > 2 months then any bounces processed by phpList more than 2 months ago, these would logically be deleted.

Thanks for your patience. I guess the real question is:
What does "process bounces" do? I don't understand what happens when i press the button. does it add all the ones that bounces to a list or something?

When you Process Bounces, phpList checks the bounces in yuor bounce email box against those emails of subscribers. It normally will leave the bounced emails in the bounce inbox so that when you click process bounces at a later date, my understanding is that it will count all bounces still stored and once the count matches your maximum bounces it blacklists that/those email(s) and no longer sends to them.
