Styling in separate file

Postby Helveticus » 12:36pm, Sat 21 Jun, 2014

Hi

How can I use an external template for the layout of my newsletter? I'm familiar with HTML and CSS. That means instead of doing the HTML and CSS stuff inside of phpList, I want to do it in a separate file.

I also want to make it responsve, i.e. using media types.

I'm currently on version 2 but will switch to version 3 soon.

in version 3, you can 'send a web page', which would be your responsive email web page.

I've seen people design their responsive email content using ChimpMail's free account, and then send it via phpList... :-)

Thank you.

In version 2 it is not possible?

Is there a tutorial how to do it in version 3?

By the way, some months ago I've tried to install version 3 (with keeping all my data from version 2 of course) but it failed, i.e. it looked ugly. Is there a step by step tutorial for guided me through?

I'm thinking you cannot send a web page in version 2 (I haven't used version 2 in over a year).

If your database is huge, you might run into time out problems doing the conversion to version 3, which is basically automatic.
Here are the instructions, it should be pretty straight forward....

How can I send a web page in version 3?

If I made a conversion to version 3, can I just keep all settings and templates from version 2 or do I have to make adjustments?

Nice and easy, design your webpage (outside phpList) saving it to the internet (ie: your webspace/where you've installed phpList).

Then change the Send a Message page from this:-
message.jpg
message.jpg (39.73 KiB) Viewed 7681 times

to this by clicking the Radio Icon beside Send a Webpage, thus:
page.jpg
page.jpg (47.71 KiB) Viewed 7681 times

Latest phpList version is now 3.0.12 (3 February 2015) and requires a minimum of MySQL 5.0 and PHP 5.3.x
