Sending Confirmation Email Suddenly Stopped

Postby bendngr » 2:27pm, Fri 18 Jul, 2014

Hi All,
I have been using PHPList script for over 2 years now and never had problem with it. I love this program and honestly I haven't seen any other script more powerful and organized than this one until now.
I just now realized when a user subscribe to any of our list no Confirmation Email is being sent to them. I checked the different users history and found out this function even was working until 3 months ago but now only notification emails are not going anywhere. Here is the summary of the problem:
- Sending email is working perfect (I'm sending thousands of emails every week using PHPList)
- No error is displaying at subscription page.
- In configuration I have define("PHPMAILER",0);
- Even re-sending notification is not working and not error message is displaying.
- As our server support guy says we had no change whatsoever in any services lately.

Has anyone had such problem before?
I have been searching for a similar problem everywhere but no success as of yet. I highly appreciate if you guys have any idea or solution to share with me. :roll:
Thanks,
Ben

Hi, I assume you are using version 2? If so, which version please.

And as it worked up to 3 months ago, what has changed on the server? Or have you changed your email perhaps?

Hi Dragonrider,

Thanks for your fast reply!
Yes it is version 2.10.18.

As far as I remember and our server support team checked we have no changes in our email system and no changes in the services but honestly I doubt it a little bit.

One new incident I just noticed today is when I processed bounces the email report came to me as anonymous@vps-1109632-11978.manage.myhosting.com how ever before this was coming from the email that I setup on the PHPList back panel.
I hope this will give us some clue.

Thanks a gain for your help.

Okay, can you please check that your email settings in the config.php file are still valid.

I'm assuming that the mail@vps etc is genuine as belonging to your server and your account? If so, sounds as if something has changed on the mail server from what it was before.

But please check that the config file settings are still valid and pointing to your original settings. Then if possible, check that the original bounce email still exists and even if it does, that the inbox isn't full (grabbing at straws here) :)

Great,
I have this information in config.php for the bounce processes:

$bounce_mailbox_host = 'zaneengroup.com';
$bounce_mailbox_user = 'no-reply@zaneengroup.com';
$bounce_mailbox_password = 'PASSWORD';

and I checked the mailbox and it looks the bounce process was able to log in perfectly and it has removed all new 31 bounces as usual.

I even changed the mailbox_host to "mail.zaneengroup.com" and tested the confirmation re-sent once but still nothing changed. I checked the account even by adding it to the outlook and it went through with ease.

By the way I think it's better I add that I even once I tried to use PHPMAILER too today by following setting:

define("PHPMAILER",1);

# To use a SMTP please give your server hostname here, leave it blank to use the standard
# PHP mail() command.
define("PHPMAILERHOST",'mail.zaneengroup.com');

# if you want to use smtp authentication when sending the email uncomment the following
# two lines and set the username and password to be the correct ones
$phpmailer_smtpuser = 'ben@zaneengroup.com';
$phpmailer_smtppassword = 'PASSWORD';

Also I have checked this email account and it was fine too, but no success.

Thanks for your help :)

Does anyone know in what file I can look for the code of notification sender?

Somewhere out of this forum I found that the file must be class.phplistmailer.php which is under "list" folder root.

Also if I know which file handles the mass email sending so then I can compare the codes and find some clues.

I believe when main email sender is working but the notification doesn't so they are using different styles for email sending.

Thanks again,
Ben
