HTML vs. Text Messages

Postby lsander » 1:20pm, Fri 23 Feb, 2007

1. Wanting to move carefully, I've set up all users to get text emails. (I have about 60 users).

2. Now I'm ready to offer each user the choice of text or HTML, or to change each one as I see fit.

3. How do I do that?

4. Can a user switch from HTML to text on his own?

To allow the user to choose text or HTML when they join your list(s) just edit the HTML Email Choice part way down the Edit a Subscribe Page, about 7th item down.

A user can do this when subscribing, if you allow this, and can do so if you set things up so they can log in and change their own subscriptions and settings.

If you want to manually change their settings, then you can do so, one at a time via the Lists>View Members page and select each member to view their preferences. Do bear in mind however, no matter how much effort we put into design and layout of a HTML email, there are always going to be some who insist on a text version!

Latest phpList version is now 3.0.12 (3 February 2015) and requires a minimum of MySQL 5.0 and PHP 5.3.x

Thanks.

I think what I'll do is this:

1) Add the text/HTML radio buttons to the Subscribe page (which I think also puts them on the Preferences page)

2) Send a message to everybody, telling them that HTML is now available to them, and directing them to their Preferences page.

Will that work?
