Setting Up forms & Subscription Pages

Postby jvirgen » 7:04pm, Sun 18 Mar, 2007

My apologizes to this community. I am sure that everyone is asking this question. I've seached endless hours through these messages and documentation but I couldn't find a full set of easy instructions on how to setup a forum on a custom html or php page. And to have it successfully send the user a email and have that user added to the system.

I have my forum setup on a php page (http://www.virgendesign.com/lists/) but when you fill it out and hit submit, it doesn't seem to do anything. I don't get a confirmation page or what you typically see a Thank you Page. Then you aren't getting a email from the system to confirm. I am sure I am missing something and I am way off.

Can anyone help me? And yes I did go through the install check list and have a list crreated.

Please please, can someone help me?

Thanks

You might go through the FAQs and see if you missed something, e.g. test mode? http://docs.phplist.com/PhplistFAQ

Okay, so I got the phplist to send out test emails, and I guess that goes for when ever I am ready to send out the actual emails...And thank you for the advice about the config edit. I changed the wrong line.

But still having issues with making my forum on my site communicate with my phplists system.

Cheeers,

There is a plugin for phpBB, in case that's the forum application you are using. See

Well I was making the form on Dreamweaver. I looked at a lot of messages that people were asking about creating customizable subscribe pages. They said to make sure the forum id pointed to your domain, that you include the hiden sign up which included your lists id, match all attributes to the ones on your list. But I don't know what else I am doing wrong.

Hmm, "form" or "forum", that's the question...

If you mean "form", you might take a look at: http://docs.phplist.com/CustomSubscribeForm

Yeah, sorry about that. I meant Form without the u. That was the first page I went to. I have all that setup. And yes my mysql database information is correct.

Anything else I can take a look at?

I'm stunned to not see any feedback from the system....hmmm.

I just had a quick glance at the html source code of your form, and I think you need to change a line as described in http://docs.phplist.com/CustomSubscribeForm .

Change this:
<form method="post" id ="http://www.virgendesign.com/lists/?p=subscribe&id=1" action="http://www.virgendesign.com" name="subscribeform">

to this:
Code: Select all
<form method="post" action="http://www.virgendesign.com/lists/?p=subscribe" name="subscribeform">

The email field is a minimal required and pre-existing default. You don't need to create it as an attribute. So, if you created attribute3 as email in your spage, you need to make it NOT required.
And then, change this:
Email: <input type="text" name="attribute3" value = "">

to this:
Code: Select all
Email: <input type="text" name="email" value = "">

Also, make sure the list ID number is correct in this line:
Code: Select all
<input type="hidden" name="list[1]" value="signup" />

Awesome, well I made those changes, and yes I made sure the list ID is the same. Especially since I only have one list created. But again, I filled the form, and nothing happened.

Also after the form was submitted, it just cleared all the fields without a thank you type page. Well once I get the form to finally send information to the system, I will ask about the thank you type page.

But yeah, still nothing.

Are you sure you created a list? Please go through this checklist: http://docs.phplist.com/SettingUpForUse

Then, very carefully follow each and every step described in: http://docs.phplist.com/CustomSubscribeForm

Finally double check the steps you made. If you do that, I'm quite sure you'll get your custom form up and running.

I'm having the same problem

Postby tyvar » 1:30am, Fri 23 Mar, 2007

I don't know what I've done but I'm having the exact same problem. When a new user subscribes their name is added to the list but they never recieve a confirmation email and the admin doesn't recieve an email.
This is the 2nd website I have installed this on, the first worked perfectly and i can not for the life of me work out what I did differently on this one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

This seems to be quite a different issue, given that the user actually can subscribe. The problem is that apparently no (confirmation) mail is being sent, that is, if I understood you correctly.

You could check whether test mode is still enabled in config.php. If so, disable it.
