hello, my question is...

i have not setup a cron job, nor have i altered with the timings of sending emails.

i have sent a message to only 143 people, yet for ages now i have this message with the progress bar. (Processing please wait. Do not interrupt!) does this mean my emails are still being sent?
is there a set time this should take and when will i know its complete?

It seems to me you may have hit a timeout. You should consider suspending mailqueue processing and requeuing the message. However, before requeuing you'd best review your sending speed settings in config.php.
