Using criteria to create a mailing list - Resolved

Postby greenadmin » 9:14am, Fri 18 Mar, 2011

I have no problem sending a campaign to my whole subscribed list. My question is how do I apply a particular criteria to create a new smaller subset of the subscriber base for a mailing. This is fundamental to a mailing and I just can't find the answer in the documentation!

You will need to use Attributes which will helped you in classifying your Userbase.

More details are available at the below link:

Thanks - I knew it was to do with attributes but the documentation refers to a series of tabs to enable criteria to be defined. I cannot see these tabs in the hosted version - where are they?

I tried finding out how to contact the phpList hosted Team and got this information.
Thanks to H2B2! :-)

For users that already signed up for a PL Hosted 'Trial account': when logged in, they'' ll find a "Contact us" link to a web form which they could use. That is probably the quickest way to get in touch with the PL Hosted team.

I have received this from the support area of phpList:
With phpList hosted we have aimed for a very wide audience. As a result,
we have currently dropped the criteria functionality from the interface,
in order to keep it as simple as possible. We do intend to add it at a
later stage, but the hosted version does not provide it just yet. So, if
you need it, the best option is to use the download version, which does
include this functionality.

In this case, you should consider installing PHPlist in your own hosting account.
It is not very difficult to install it.
Once installed, you should not feel much difference between the PHPlist Hosted and your own version.

Thanks for the help but I don't want to own this. I need to hand it over to other people in my association in the future .
I think there is a work around by exporting the master list and using excel to select certain records then import it back to a new list. Clumsy but workable?

I am doubtful about it.
Since Criteria is something not available in the hosted version, even if you import a list with the criteria assigned in your list, they may not be recorded in the database.
I used too long a sentence to explain, but I hope you get the point.
