Required fields are marked red? Resolved

Postby greenadmin » 3:36am, Mon 09 May, 2011

My hosted subscription page works fine and contains 3 required fields and one optional. At the head of these input fields a message automatically appears stating "required fields are marked red".
In all the browsers I've tried (Google Chrome, IE and Firefox)they aren"t!
Can anyone tell me how to turn this message off or alternatively how to make it display the fields in red

In a non-hosted installation that text string can be changed in the 'frontend' language file:
Code: Select all
$strRequired            = 'required fields are marked red';

Assuming you do not have access to this file when using a PL Hosted account, and therefore cannot change that text string, your only alternative is to make sure the required fields are marked red (CSS class "required") , that is, if you are able to link your phplist.css style sheet outside the Hosted domain in admin/?page=configure&id=pageheader

In the phplist.css style sheet you should check this CSS class:
Code: Select all
.required {
   font-size : 12px;
   font-family : Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
   font-weight : normal;
   font-style : normal;
   color : red;
   text-decoration : none;
}

I expect the Hosted team will at some point move file based configuration options (config.php and possibly <language>.inc) to web based config options.

And I suppose they would find it useful if PL Hosted users let them know which configuration options need to be included, either by using theMantis issue tracker and/or the contact form of your Hosted account.

I think other PL Hosted users will find it useful if _you_ keep them updated about your findings. Please feel free to do so. :wink:

Thanks for the lengthy answer to my post. I am a user not a developer and in the hosted version do not have access to the files you mention. I will refer this to the support/contact team with the hope they take it on board.

The kindly phpList team have provided the following for a non developer like me:
"The fields that are marked required have a class that can be styled with
CSS. If you put the css in the header section of your subscribe page,
you can control the way it looks, including the fact that the text is
red."
They even gave me the code to insert in my CSS. So it now reads:
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
.required { color: red }
</style>
</head>
</html>

It works! :D
