Import Users & Lists Into 3.08 With phpMyAdmin

Postby hippyjohnny » 4:30pm, Thu 23 Oct, 2014

Currently using V2, but have installed to 3.08 in a different folder, and am preparing to switch over. Everything is operating in the new version, and now I would like to transfer over my lists and users. Since the tables in 3.08 are clean, I figure I can import the user and list tables directly to the new version. Below are the tables I think I have to use...

phplist_list
phplist_listuser
phplist_user_blacklist
phplist_user_blacklist_data
phplist_user_user

My thought is to import "list" and "user_user" first, and then follow with the rest.

Will this method of importing user and list tables through phpMyAdmin with with phpList 3.08?

Are there any other methods that are better?

If you are happy using phpMyAdmin, then copy the existing database, renaming the new copy so you know the difference, put that database's settings in your version 3 installation's config.php file, then from version 3's adminpages, update database if offered. NOT Initalise!! That'll wipe it!

Then you should be able to use your old Db in your new install.

Latest phpList version is now 3.0.12 (3 February 2015) and requires a minimum of MySQL 5.0 and PHP 5.3.x

Dragonrider, Thanks for the reply. With over one-million entries, the conversion process from V2 to V3 is very time consuming, plus I was hoping to avoid migrating a bunch of information I don't need in the fresh install. Since I only need lists and emails, as well as the black list, I was hoping to start a discussion and hopefully finding a solution to only importing data I want in the new install.

I was wondering if there was any precedent in the approach I originally outlined, and if anybody thought it would work?

Also, Dragonrider, if I did start the database upgrade, would I have to complete it all at once, or can I stop and continue it on the next day?

Can you also explain how I might be able to utilize this feature?

Hint: this page also works from commandline

I emptied the _linktrack table which was by far the largest before initialization and the conversion/upgrade when much faster.
