Installation screen shows no reaction

I just tried to install phplist 3.0.10

I downloaded the distribution, untared it, copied the folder lists to /var/www/
sudo chmod -R www-data:www-data lists
I created a database and user with all rights for this database, verified that I can login to my Mysql database with that credentials.
Added the information to lists/config/config.php

Go to the web site http://abc.com/lists or localhost/lists and get the information that I need to setup.
I fill in name, the name of your organisation, email address and enter a password.

I click Continue, and nothing happens!

No entry in /var/log/apache2/access.log or error.log

No database table created.

I am puzzled what I am missing!

I replaced config.php with config_extended.php since it includes $pageroot = '/lists'
However, it has not changed a thing, ... still no move!

Then I found something, that it might look for index.html instead of index.php

I changed in the order to put index.php at the first place in:
/etc/apache2/mods-available/dir.conf
and restarted apache, ... nothing changed, but

if I go to the page:
http://abc.com/lists then I get an error:
Database error 1146 while doing query Table 'phplist.phplist_subscribepage' doesn't exist
Database error 1146 while doing query Table 'phplist.phplist_subscribepage' doesn't exist
Database error 1146 while doing query Table 'phplist.phplist_subscribepage' doesn't exist

If I go to the page
http://abc.com/lists/admin then I see the setup form, when I click on initialze database and fill out the required information, click on Continue, and nothing happens. Not even in the log files access/error

Any idea what I can try?
