Edit already sent message

Postby ovans » 6:48pm, Fri 16 Aug, 2013

How do I edit the code of a already sent message? I use it to copy the code into a new message.

I've just upgraded to 3.0 and in the previous version i could just edit the message and the copy/paste the code in a new message.

Yes, I consider this to be something of a step backwards too - working from a previous message was my normal modus operandi in V2...

I'm not seeing the same as you guys.

Login to phpList 3's admin pages, hover over the Campaigns tab at the top, click Send a Campaign. From the resulting page you should see a list of previous messages, both drafts and sent messages.

Click on the blue link below Draft Campaigns, and copy what you want from the resulting message page, then back to send a campaign and choose Start a new Campaign.

Hi Dragonrider,

I can't see a list of previous messages and only the draft that was made because i clicked "send a campaign". The previous send campaigns are only under List of campagins -> sent.

Okay, on my localhost test installation I can see my Sent messages.

Clicking the magnifying glass under action at the far right, brings up the original (sent) message:

I simply highlight the text from the message and copy it to paste into a new message. (Ignore the references to 2.11, this has been updated to 3.0.0 like my other installs which all behave the same.

Ok Dragonrider, that's an option. But i want to copy the code so i also use the excact same colours and stuff in the new message.
Before i clicked "edit" of an old message, clicked to show the code and copied it.
So what i would like is the "edit" button back for already sent messages ;)

I'm with you know, what you are asking for is an option to view the HTML or Display of an actual message that has been sent before you upgraded to version 3.

I just posted this request in another thread.
Previously you could 'Edit' a Sent Message. View the Source copy it and paste it into a new message. This saved a lot of time if you'd built a fancy footer or header section you wanted to reuse.

My sent Messages don't have links, they only have View and Requeue

Indeed this is a serious omission in version 3. In prior versions you were Always able to edit (code or finished lay-out) of al sent messages. Now you can just view the content, in this viewmode you can also copy some stuff but this is a serious step backward. Luckily I Always copied the code to a notepad document just in case, this will now come in handy but it is not the desired way.

Worked out how to do it...

If you requeue it, and then pause it, it appears on the active list rather than sent. Then you can edit it and either copy the code for a new message, or change it and send it to those who have not already had it.

Hooray!

Cris, thanks for your input, but NEVER EVER your your email as a username in a forum! You lay yourself open to spam bot harvesting by doing so!!

Nope! What i'm asking for is the option back (!) to view the HTML or Display of an actual message that has been sent.
The option isn't there for messages sent in version 2 or 3.

In version 2 there always was a "edit" link for sent messages or drafts :(

The cited hack does exactly what is needed — many thanks! For me, that was the ability to edit a queued message.

http://www.alangeorge-photography.com/listCode_017.php

The instructions to modify admin/messages.php are a bit confusing, but the hack is quite simple:

1. Comment the edit button for suspended messages (line 355)
2. Comment the draft condition for the delete and edit buttons (lines 358 and 363)

(Line numbers are from v3.0.2)

I am undoing this hack. The new v3 editing functions, even opening them just to check a queued message's embargo time, cause a resave, apparently always to draft, requiring a requeue.

And twice now, when I open a queued message for editing, the content has reverted to an earlier version (my newsletter is currently revised (by an automatically run script) each day from a daily repeat; so it seems that after opening a queued message for editing, the editing page is reading the previous sent message instead of the current queued message).
