need help for DMARC & DKIM alignment

Postby airelle » 9:13am, Thu 02 Apr, 2015

Hello,

I try to publish a DMARC policy but I get "dmarc=fail (p=NONE dis=NONE)"... Could you please help me ? I don't understand what I should modify to get a dmarc PASS...

The headers of the emails I send contains this :
Code: Select all
Return-Path: <noreply@mywebsite.com>
Received: from server1.myVPS.com
Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of noreply@mywebsite.com designates [IP] as permitted sender) client-ip=[IP];
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com;
       spf=pass (google.com: domain of noreply@ mywebsite.com designates [IP] as permitted sender) smtp.mail=noreply@mywebsite.com;
       dkim=pass header.i=@mywebsite.com;
       dmarc=fail (p=NONE dis=NONE) header.from=anotherdomain.com

What should I do to get dmarc=pass ??

The situation is the following :
  • My VPS is linked to the domain myVPS.com. I configured SPF & DKIM on this domain.
  • On the VPS, I host a website named mywebsite.com (which has dedicated IP). I configured SPF & DKIM on this domain too.
  • I use mywebsite.com to send emails with PHPList. I tried to send an email from "newsletter@anotherdomain.com", where "anotherdomain.com" belongs to me and has right SPF & DKIM records.
I published DMARC policies (test) for the domains mywebsite.com and anotherdomain.com. The DMARC entry is the following for mywebsite.com :
Code: Select all
_dmarc 10800 IN TXT "v=DMARC1;p=none;rua=mailto:hostmaster@mywebsite.com;ruf=mailto:hostmaster@mywebsite.com"

and I published a similar one for anotherdomain.com.

But I get DMARC=FAIL... What should I do ?

Many thanks for your help !!

my DMARC entries look like this:

"v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:user@domain.com; sp=none"

you might want to make sure your format is correct, you've got the right idea....

Hello,
Thanks but after some researches, it seems to be an alignment problem... I need to send with mywebsite.com (which hosts phplist) messages with other addresses as FROM (in this case : newsletter@anotherdomain.com) and it seems to be problematic with DMARC since these messages would be unaligned... Is there a solution or should I definitively remove DMARC policy ?

According to the Dmarc website...
http://dmarc.org/faq/senders/

look for this :
As a marketing firm, how can I send DMARC-compliant mail for my customers?

You have to either:
- send from your domain
- relay through their domain

It's a bit complicated, and explained well on that page.
