max file count for template

Postby mullet » 1:54am, Tue 15 Oct, 2013

Greetings, I hope I can get my point across correctly.

I am a noob. Been playing with this on a shared hosting server for sometime. I have purchased a tool to help with the layout (Mail Designer Pro) using HTML 5 compliant code.

Everything appears to be going well with one minor issue. The Mail Designer outputs the newsletter in a single HTML file (content.html) and several images, for both desktop and mobile platforms. The work in progress is comprised of 34 images.

In PHPList > Manage Campaign Templates I can attach the content.html (with a [CONTENT] place holder at the top) and select the checkbox to "Check that all external images exist".

The next screen offers to attach the files to the correct name, this is fine using Finder. On this page at the bottom is the Save Images button. Click it, and the resultant page indicates:

Images stored
Template saved and ready for use in campaigns

When I send a test message I am missing many of the images (little blue boxes with the ? inside). If I use PHPMyAdmin and look at the DB table templateimages I only see 21 rows of data.

If I go back through the process and select different images to upload nothing is performed.

Where do I look for the 21 image limitation? I have asked Mail Designer Pro for insight, but I as I tried a different campaign and get the same issue I can't help but wonder where this limit is set.

I have been scouring the forums and the Google for so long I can't see straight, and with all the smarts I see here I'm sure someone has encountered this before.

Please, if this is something with the server/config, PHPList, Mail Designer, I'm an idiot, whatever... I do appreciate any help.

There is no 21 limit.

Check the html code for the images. Paste here one just to check. Must be that.

Thanks for the response. I tested by changing an img src that was not in the table templateimage (image-30.png) to an image that has been uploaded into the table (image-19.png) and it does display as expected.

If I take the content.html and the associated iamge files and upload them into dir on the web server it displays correctly. It appears that the HTML is correct, the file names of the img src are correct, but as the assets are not in the templateimage table they are not "found/valid".

I'm not sure how to describe in proper language. Would screenshots help?

I hope I am making sense.

Mark

EDIT: To make some tests, I attempted again to upload more images via the Template Editor with no joy. However, if I create a new template I can upload 21 of the 34 dependent image files.

By the way, the template can't have head or body tags.

In my case I have the page created in my PC in dramweaver with all links working correctly, it is an actual webpage in my server. Then I use that webpage as the template. Also, the CSS is in a style tag, and some others in the body. I'd like to see the code of the template, screenshots are good too.

And, what I send has the images embedded, not a link to the webserver.

Thank you for the continues assistance.

The raw output from the Mail Designer Pro is located at http://queencreekchiro.biz/newsletter

I made a copy of index.html (with head and body tags) locally and stripped the head and body tags and reapplied in template editor. The same process ensued, I selected the Check that all external images exist checkbox, then linked all the missing images, clicked the save images button, and again they did not upload to the server. I still see the same (original) 21 assets in the imagetemplate table in the DB.

Firstly, I wasn't aware a page would render correctly without the head and body tags, so thank you for that... I never even thought of that.

Now, I just went into Template Manager and created a new template, selected the no_tags version of the file, linked the images and got the same result... only 21 of the assets were installed into the database.

I'll try to attach a screenshot, not that you probably don't know what the database looks like.

Also, I havea screenshot of the Preview of the template post build, it shows the "missing assets".

I just got off the support line with the hosting company, they tell me there is nothing at the server level that they could point me to that would limit the number of support files being loaded into a DB table.

Interesting that I find other posts of the same question, but never any solutions.

@mariofau2:
could you elaborate on your DW workflow, please. I'd hate to abandon the Mail Designer Pro but at this point I need to get this working. I'd like to emulate your process and see if I get further along.

I'm also going to investigate how to manually upload into the templateimage table.

Thanks for the continued help!

I manually added a "missing" element to the DB and sent a test from the Campaign. See screenshot, it appears the image is not parsed and sent as the others (that are uplaoded via the template editor function), but as a link.

As a further test, I created a new template and added only 4 of the images that were not being uploaded. Despite the success message, none of the assets were inserted into DB table.

Would there be any logging on the server that might provide a clue?

Thanks!

Perhaps a clue!

I found this in the server log:

Does uploading a tEmplate get wrapped into the FCKEditor somehow? Still researching...

phplist adds the body tag so you don't need to add it.

Check the source code of a sent email. You can paste it in http://pastebin.com/ to see it.
It is something like:

--------------070009000606050308060001
Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

< html >
< head >
< meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" >
</ head >
< body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" >

I create a webpage, strip the head section except for the styles, strip the body tag and put that in a template. I copy and paste into the create template window.

You create a page and upload it?
Try making a simple one and copy-paste the content into it. Like:

< div >
<src="image.png"><br> ONE
<src="image.png"><br> TWO
< / div >[CONTENT]

Please let me see the code of the template as it is in phplist. Pastebin too.
Bye.
