This was possible under Version 2 of phpList via the use of a User created Plugin, however, this is no longer supported by the creator and does NOT work under Version 3.

Is there an alternative or work around to this? I really need a mailing list program that can receive posts from an email client and forward to group members.

Sounds like something the old Yahoo Groups could do, might be worth your while looking into that?
