The list of feature requests is getting a bit large, so I'm trying to highlight the main ones and see which ones are the most popular ones so we can concentrate on those.

The problem with not having batching currently offered, is

(1) Most web hosts have batching requirements, which means that at best this script can be used with only small lists; and

(2) The mailing to a large list can easily bury a server as it chews up all the available CPU/RAM (not necessarily done by the script itself, but rather by Exim/Sendmail as it attempts to chew through the queue that was dumped on it).

Batching would make this script usable for many shared-hosting clients as well as protect the server from becoming overloaded. It's not even a convenience issue :) it would help ensure that the server is still up after the mailing has gone out. :)

Dynamic retrieval of contents. Mind you, I think it's possible to bodge this whereas you can't bodge batching. Without staying awake all night and getting a very tired finger.

My priority

Postby hellertech » 10:55pm, Thu 01 Apr, 2004

I like batching and listed that as my first choice because all my phplist insallations are on shared servers.

But flexible front end design is important to me. I want to better integrate teh subscribe screen with the rest of my site

Click through tracking

Subscription Stats

then not on the list in the poll
the ability to eduit the text of a message after it has been submitted (in the even that you realize there is a typo or a formatting issue)

the ability to export one list at a time rather than all users.

michiel

Got the email so thought I would reply.

I had a problem with the index file needing to be index.php instead of index.html so I did not get far after set up the other stuff. I am a learner when it comes to most area of the web and want to learn php when I get time, currently I am a flash elearning developer. Also expert in swishMax so anything that makes it easier to integrate with swf's interests me. If you want any help in that area please feel free to contact me and I will try to help.

I will probably have another go at using phplist when I get time.

Hi,

I can't really pick just one, so I will list some here:
Click-thru tracking / Stats
Forgot Password for encrypted passwords
More Flexible Front End Design

Thanks for the opportunity to have a say.

Well Im a site designer, and frequently utilize phplist for clients. What I would llike to see is an ability to make it more like majordomo so my not so pc literate clients can just send an email to a particular email address and have it go out to all subscribers of a certain list.....but since this isnt an option....... :)

Dynamic retrieval of contents of emails ([URL:http://somesite])
 Sorta like a replaceable blog? LOVE this idea!
More flexible frontend design
Forgot password system for encrypted passwords
Click through tracking
Send Emails in batches (eg 10 every hour)
 I dont have huge lists so this doesnt bother me so much
Statistics/Graphs or subscriptions, emails etc
Blacklisting unsubscribed users, so they can't be re-subscribed
Date attribute for users that can be used to invoke an email
Multi Language support

Campaign management

Postby sarahk » 11:44pm, Thu 01 Apr, 2004

I'd like to be able to have hidden fields on the signup form.

I would also like to be able to run campaigns. This would mean that X days after signing up I send the user an email. Another X days later they get and second email and then later a 3rd.

I don't use CRON so am setting these off manually so if I forget then all the dates need to slip so that the delay is adhered to, not the original dates.

I also need to be able to pull a user from the list if they, say, purchase my product.

my feature choice

Postby rkdesantos » 12:59am, Fri 02 Apr, 2004

I voted for batch release but I if I had my choice I would agree with the post by tom_arnold: let's get the existing features working and the bugs out before adding more features.

The feature I need the most is to be able to insert the name and e-mail address of the recipient in the header, footer, or body depending on the need. I also would like an easier way of adding header lines to the outgoing message (the header of the message but the header of the e-mail) than the current need to hack the code.

Still, we need a working stable release first.

Custom submit pages

Postby ElgertS » 12:59am, Fri 02 Apr, 2004

I would like a custom page for submitting to the list. I currently use a MLM on Mac OS 9 that has served me for years and have a custom web-based submittal page built in Tango years back. This allows me to use the template functionality PHPList currently has, but also allows me to add specialized additional custom functions. For instance I need for one list to submit an announcement to the list and have a link that goes to a website for images and additional details on the subject. I want this to be automatically created using data I submit from the web form used to submit the announcement.

Yes, Send Emails in batches (eg 10 every hour)

Send Emails in batches (eg 10 every hour)

And check Tom Arnold's post. I agree! Extensive documentation -- PDF, HTML, whatever!

A product isn't really a completely working product unless it's got great documentation!

Hi Michiel,

my wish list:
1) possibility to edit/modify queued/prepared messages

2) Multi domain support for servers hosting more websites

3) allow sending attachments specified with a wildcard

thanks!!

Multiple Reply-To Addresses & Multiple list admins.

Postby dharhas » 1:53pm, Fri 02 Apr, 2004

Hi,

I feel the ability to have diifferent reply to addresses for different lists and also the ability to choose a set of admins who have access to a particular list is critical for phplist to be used in any kind of setting that involved more than one person sending out the messages. I''m not sure about the second issue but from what I can tell it shouldn't be too difficult to set up the reply-to feature. I'm actually planning to try implementing it myself sometime in the next few weeks.
