I'm new to this too and have just sussed this one out !

In the config.php file there is an option under the Feedback to developers section that allows you to remove the PHPList images in the html emails and public webpages (inc subscribe page). Set both these options to 1 and you'll end up with just a text link credit to PHP/TinCan rather than the images.

(Of course this needs to be edited in Frontpage/Dreamweaver or html editor of your choice, and then uploaded back to your server; just as you would have done initially when you made changes to the config.php file)

Good Luck, hope this helps.

How to get rid of the powered by logo

Postby mibcons » 4:03am, Sun 07 May, 2006

I have looked at the LOGO and have thought about it. I gladly leave it there. When I drive my Truck it says with big letters GMC, My car says Mercury and my Van says Ford. I paid for those items, this one is for free (donations seems to be welcomed)

Honour where honour is due.

PHP-list links put your message on spam list

Postby timor » 4:57pm, Mon 08 May, 2006

I would like to give honor to the one who did a hard work and gave this beautiful peace of work free to humankind. However I have removed the PHP-List logo and link because if I leave it all my messages will be on spam list and they do not reach subscribers.

Please remove this in the next version.

Come again?
what is making your mailnglist go to SPAM box IS NOT the PHPlist logo. that I assure you.
I have a malinglist with more than 1800 emails, and when it goes to SPAM, is if some user reports it as SPAM instead of removing im self

I agree with BUGabundo. And another reason why mail frequently ends up in the spam box is a badly configured mailserver and domain. Try testing your domain/rDNS etc. at http://dnsreport.com and see whether it comes out well...

No spam response.... you have to be kidding!

Postby jurycom » 5:39am, Thu 24 Aug, 2006

So you think that a footer such as

...powered by PHPList

is not going to evoke a strong spam resonse even when the mail is not spam?

You're deluding yourselves.

Powered By PHPList Is An Attachment Image

Postby jaw » 5:58pm, Sat 26 Aug, 2006

The graphic logo is viewed by email security scans as an attachment file. Hence, many individuals are very wary of any type of attachment in their emails. Even if the email makes it through the spam detectors, a person that is very security conscience may choose not to even look at it. I have no problem with giving credit to PHPList, but consider what might be happening on the subscribers' emails received. By changing the config file in the Developers Feedback section to produce a text link instead of the graphic will alleviate this problem.

Actually, either the MX Logic Mail Defense filter service (resold by Tucows as eMail Defense) or something called "Rebuild" DOES see the Powered By link as SPAM believe it or not.

I've been wrestling with this for several days.

Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL were accepting my messages, however anything going through the MX Logic filters - which I use for all my domains - was being caught regardless of content. When I removed the Powered By text link, all email now went through.

I don't yet know what added this line to my email headers:

X-Processed-By: Rebuild v1.50-1

But I'm working on that next. It's possible that this one sets the header:

X-Spam-Flag: YES

and then the MX Logic filter picks this up - I don't know for certain.

Removing the Powered By text linkkkk fixes the problem. Adding it back in immediately causes every email - even a simple "TEST" text message - to be captured as SPAM...

Very interesting. Could you add your findings as a note to this report at Mantis?
Thanks ! :D

I still need to understand the cause and affect here - that is who is actually marking the message as SPAM.

The Rewrite piece is apparently happening in Spam Assassin (a PLESK installation with a default 'limited' installation of SA...), and it may be the marking of the message as SPAM here that's actually triggering MX Logic - I'm going to test this through another MS Logic configuration that is not also going through Spam Assassin.
