Okay, I just did what you said, and the result was as I expected, NOT as you predicted. I went to the "configure phplist" page, to:
1. From email address for system messages:
and changed it from "noreply@kyleknapp.com" to "kyle@kyleknapp.com"
and then to:
2. What name do system messages appear to come from:
and changed it from "Webmaster" to "kyle knapp"
Then I created a test message and sent it. While I was creating the new message, the "From:" line showed up as "admin
kyle@kyleknapp.com" (no change from before).
The message I sent to myself arrived as from "admin", but the SYSTEM MESSAGE telling me how many messages I had sent and such, was from "kyle knapp", with a source address of "kyle@kyleknapp.com"
"System messages" appear to be automated messages sent by the system (not by me), including user subscription confirmation and Mailing list processing info, etc. Regular "list" messages are unaffected by these parameters.
By the way, the "subject" of various system messages CAN by configured on the same page - but apparently a default subject for list messages (such as "your weekly kyle knapp newsletter") cannot be. Strange, I think.
But it's not a big deal - default "subject" and "from" data can be easily overridden when creating a new message.
It is, however, a bit of a distraction to be given erroneous instructions. (Does this perhaps work differently in different versions? I'm using 2.10.2)
