I'm not really sure if this means anything, but I have noticed a difference between the message source of an email that works, and one that doesn't.

There seems to be something going on with line breaks. A pdf attachment sent out through mailman (which works) looks like this (first few lines only):

Code: Select all
Content-Type: application/pdf;
 name="13042007.pdf"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: inline;
 filename="13042007.pdf"

If I remember correctly, the config.php file states that the attachement part is experimental. We therefore decided it would be best to wait for the next stable release and, atleast till then, do NOT send any attachements. PDF files will be linked to our webserver if necessary.

short summary:

- every pdf-attachement send to an exchange-server is corrupt.

- other mailservers work fine

- if connected via imap on that exchangeserver, everything works fine

PDF's being emailed straight from Inhouse Software

Postby Nicky Dalziell » 3:55am, Wed 18 Jul, 2007

We are having problems sending pdf's via inhouse software. If the pdf is previewed and/or saved and then emailed it is fine. Put if it is sent straight to email then only specific sites get a blank pdf.
I cannot replicate the issue when I send myself a pdf via the software.

We have narrowed it down to sites that have Exchange 2003 service pack 2, that seem to open the pdf and it is blank. Having looked at the pdf's there is 3 bytes missing off the blank pdf compared to the correct pdf.

Can anyone help with this?

Many thanks, N

Comparison of pdf's - Blank versus Good

Postby Nicky Dalziell » 4:23am, Wed 18 Jul, 2007

One of our developers did a comparison on the byte in the good vs blank pdf
The position AAAA (43690 - 46653) was a block that was completely different in the blank pdf. Visually there didn't seem to be any pattern to it.
We are thinking that it could be the way our inhouse software is attaching the pdf, that Exchange doesn't like.

PDF corrept files

Postby johnap » 7:12am, Mon 30 Jul, 2007

Interesting observation is when you send PDF file in batch mode as attachment they are received perfectly (.i.e. less number of emails per batch)

When you increase the number of mail count then PDF file is corrupted.

I have the same problem

Hi there,

Here is a bit more information that I found about our problem.

The MS fix does fix the issue. But we have narrowed it down to having space char's in the base64 encoding (Char 20). Now we all know that this is not suppose to happen, since we do the base64 encoding ourselves, we are able to correct this.

It seems that the some base64 decoders work around characters that should not exist in the base64 encoding.

Looking at the message headers of the email file should determine if the problem are related.

Hope that helps even further.

Thanks

Does anybody has a fix for this?
I tried to tell my client using phplist that is not a bug, but he doesn't care, he wants his clients to get the PDF in the mail and many of them are using exchange+outlook

Some posts back in this thread, Reinier suggests this microsoft fix:

The issue has also been discussed in the bug tracker and will probably be fixed in release 2.11.x.
See: http://mantis.phplist.com/view.php?id=12126

A possible solution is suggested by wnicholls in this report: http://mantis.phplist.com/view.php?id=15164
See also: http://mantis.phplist.com/view.php?id=15165

Please provide some feedback on whether or not this solution works for you. Thx!

I used to have a lot of complains about this, mainly from banks.
But they don't complain any more, it looks like they have patched the exchange server as they should have done.

good luck
