3rd party code for phpList

[plugin] Bounce Statistics

Postby duncanc » 11:27am, Mon 06 Feb, 2012

This plugin displays information about bounces:
  • summarised by email domain
  • the reason for each bounce
  • the users whose bounce count is > 0
It is based on the SQL queries in this forum topic http://forums.phplist.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=6322&start=0. The bounce reason is derived by interpreting the body of the bounce response.

Additionally you can:
  • select user attributes to display
  • page through the results, and change the number of results shown
  • download results as a csv file

Installation
There are separate versions of the plugin for phplist 3.x and phplist 2.10.x.

For phplist 3.x see the GitHub page https://github.com/bramley/phplist-plugin-bounces
For phplist 2.10.x see this topic for how to download and install the plugin http://forums.phplist.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=37421

Requires php version 5.2 or later.

There is a new release of the plugin to work with the latest CommonPlugin, both version 20120322. The CommonPlugin now provides buttons to display phpinfo results and display the config.php file.
See the first post of this topic for how to download and install.

There is a new release of the plugin to fix a problem whereby all bounces were displayed on the Reason tab, ignoring the "show" parameter.

See the first post of this topic for how to download and install.

A new release of the plugin that includes French translation in UTF-8 format as well as the default ISO-8859-1. So, if you have modified the French language_info file to use UTF-8 then the plugin's captions should now be displayed correctly. This requires the latest (20120828) CommonPlugin to be installed.

Thanks to Julien Lusson for the translations.

Thanks for this plugin but I'm a bit lost. I unzipped the CommonPlugin and BounceStatisticsPlugin files to a new folder "plugins" in my lists folder. What next?

See your config.php file for how to set the location of the plugin directory
# you can create your own pages to slot into PHPlist and do certain things
# that are more specific to your situation (plugins)
# if you do this, you can specify the directory where your plugins are. It is
# useful to keep this outside the PHPlist system, so they are retained after
# upgrading
# there are some example plugins in the "plugins" directory inside the
# admin directory
# this directory needs to be absolute, or relative to the admin directory

define("PLUGIN_ROOTDIR","/home/me/phplistplugins");

# uncomment this one to see the examples in the system (and then comment the
# one above)
#define("PLUGIN_ROOTDIR","plugins");

Move the directory that you have created to your home directory, then amend the first define line in config.php shown above
OR
unzip the zip files in your admin/plugins directory, then comment-out the first define shown above, and uncomment the second shown above.

OK, thanks, done that - anything else? I can't see anything new in the right-hand navigation.

Done what? There were two options, which have you chosen? Can you show how you have changed the lines in config.php?

I suggest removing everything, start again and follow the instructions here http://forums.phplist.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=37421&p=90006#p90006

OK, I chose the second option. the config file reads:

# define("PLUGIN_ROOTDIR","/home/me/phplistplugins");

# uncomment this one to see the examples in the system (and then comment the
# one above)
define("PLUGIN_ROOTDIR","plugins");

On the main page I can see the plugins section but the Bounces plugin does not appear there. There are references in the instructions to "installing" the plugins but I can't see where/how to do this. Simply uploading the files isn't enough, is it?

I can't unzip files on the server (or don't know how) so I am unzipping them locally then uploading.

That is probably where you are going wrong by not keeping the correct directory structure. You might have created an extra level of directory. There should be a BounceStatisticsPlugin.php file and BounceStatisticsPlugin directory immedately in the plugins directory:
Extract or uncompress the zip file directly in the plugin directory. This should create the xxxPlugin.php file and the xxxPlugin sub-directory.

On your host, if you have cpanel then right click the zip file and choose "extract". Other control panels should have a similar command.

OK, OK, didn't notice the php file, just the directory, so didn't upload it with the folder. Got it now. Thanks!
